Forum Performance and Spam Update

As you likely noticed, our Forum that we all use and love, has been performing noticeably slow more recently. This is due to the continued spamming we have experienced. We had to shut off some processes including the ones that handled the displaying of post already viewed. This has greatly improved performance temporarily. We have added some spam defenses that are not doing enough currently. The data being sent to Akismet is either not correct or being correctly read.

There are two main areas we will improve upon following this event:

1. We are working with Akismet to sort out why it is not blocking spam as it should. This will involve us digging into the data that is being sent to them to make sure it's valid.

2. We are hooking up an email confirmation hopefully today. The idea is to not allow a person to post until the confirm the email. We hope to not need captcha's as it would be a last resort.

Still, we want to apologize for the continued annoyance. We want to thank all you affected by this for your patience and support. It means the world to us. Thank you.

We will continue to update you on how this progresses on Twitter and here.
