Zurb Template Interchange Not Working?

I am flabbergasted. Can't make interchange work at all. Neither in the development server nor deployed in a LAMP.

Foundation 6.4 installed using npm

foundation new

❯ A website (Foundation for Sites)

? What's the project called? (no spaces) beta2
? Which template would you like to use? (Use arrow keys)

  ZURB Template: includes Handlebars templates and Sass/JS compilers

Been using foundation for 5 years. Interchange is nice. Zurb's Foundation is fantastic.

I've never used the templating engine of panini for production before, but done a few experiments (front matter, partials, and navigation - but not interchange) and I'm stuck in the middle of a project that's been otherwise smooth great .... until I needed to use interchange.

I've tried:

<img data-interchange="[/path/small.png, (small)], [/path/medium-up-image.png, (medium)]" alt="ALT TEXT" >

- and -

<img data-interchange="[{{root}}path/small.png, (small)], [{{root}}path/medium-up-image.png, (medium)]" alt="ALT TEXT" >

The paths are correct,the alt text shows up, but the image does not. I check the path of the images, and they are correct.

I notice this in the console:

Tried to initialize dropdown-menu on an element that already has a Foundation plugin.
app.js:16004:11

Tried to initialize interchange on an element that already has a Foundation plugin.
app.js:16004:11

Tried to initialize responsive-toggle on an element that already has a Foundation plugin.
app.js:16004:11

Source map error: request failed with status 404
Resource URL: http://192.168.0.56:8000/assets/js/app.js
Source Map URL: ./dist/svg-injector.map.js[Learn More]

I tried creating a new foundation for sites in case I fubared something, to no avail.Interchange does not work. At all

I appreciate your having read this and hope you can point me to a possible solution.

To be clear, I can make interchange do what I want in Foundation 4, 5, and 6 (not using panini).

I solved the problem by using my own flat file generating system using PHP.

Panini was disappointing.
