_settings.scss use of rem vs rem-calc

I've noticed that both rem and rem-calc are used througout _settings.scss. Is there a reason for this? I know that there can be an issue with using rem units in media queries in some browsers, but plain old rem is showing up more and more in _settings.scss , and as a rem-calc lover, I'm curious as to the benefit of this.

Both are valid. Some units are easy to set with rem's especially if you are used to them. Since rem-calc is in a px value, it may be easier to understand for some spacing. My preference is rem's because it's easy to remember for spacing like padding: 1rem;

Ideally, the more consistant the files the better.

Makes sense, Rafi. Thank you for the explanation.
