Introduction/Getting Started docs

Hi. I've downloaded Foundation 6 and am keen to read up on it as thoroughly as possible before toying around with it. I have a good knowledge of HTML, vanilla CSS (no Sass etc) and JS.

However, I can't seem to find anywhere on Foundation's site that gives a good, solid introduction to the framework, along the lines of "If you're new, start here ..." with a guide to installation, how the whole thing is structured and works, etc.

I can find videos about particular things within Foundation (some of which are a bit outdated, about Foundation 5) and stuff on Sass or modules etc, but nothing that gives a good, comprehensive overview of how to use the framework if you're new.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Tom

Foundation is very modularized. Once you get the hang of how to utilize the grid layout, set up some rows and columns and add whatever modular layout/functionality you need within these sections.

Grids: http://foundation.zurb.com/sites/docs/grid.html

A good way to learn is to play with some of the example templates: http://foundation.zurb.com/templates.html

http://foundation.zurb.com/sites/docs - Left sidebar lists all the different options/layouts/functionality that foundation has to offer.

Make sure you are mapping to any needed foundation css and js files.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Jules. I was hoping for some more thorough documentation that might save me wasting some time. I am getting my hands dirty with the Yeti Launcher and just generally mucking about with things, so I am learning - but it would be nice to have some specific guidelines for newbies.

Nonetheless, I'm determined to master it.

I understand. Consider yourself lucky ;) I work with Windows and it's a real challenge to find and deploy the right combination of tools. I'm definitely looking forward to a gui interface for Windows!

I found a great tutorial for working with Windows and the Foundation CLI at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKywQK4NPdc I still had trouble because I was previously working with foundation via compass. It took me a bit to figure out how to remove the old tools so the new ones would work correctly. I was dealing with a clash of foundation cli versions.

I think I'm finally there. I've successfully set up a ZURB Template starter project from the cmd line to play around with. http://foundation.zurb.com/sites/docs/starter-projects.html

Sorry I'm not able to be more helpful, but like you I'm determined ;)
Happy New Year!
