It installed I made a new dir for my project and cd into it and ran $foundation new --framework sites --template zurb

in my text editor I can view all the files as described in the project folder, but then I try running $foundation watch and I get this error message:

When you set up the project, were there any errors? At the end there are three status checks, and all three would have been green, or one of them may have been red if there was an error.

If there weren't any errors, try running npm i gulp to reinstall Gulp. The error is related to a package Gulp is trying to load internally.

Hello,
yes i did have errors the very last check mark with npm dependencies would have an "x" Your helped me with this over at github https://github.com/zurb/foundation-sites/issues/7506#event-495094200 I found that trying to initialize the basic template first helped to get everything working then when I ran the complete one everthing worked just great! Thank you for you time!
