What is the difference between "column" and "columns"?

This is very important to my employer so I really need to know.

I have been using the singular "column" if I have a series of small-12 content blocks. These, in my mind, form one column.

I have been using the plural "columns" if I have content blocks comprised of something like small-6 and small-6. In my mind these form multiple columns.

Can you tell me the best way to use these terms?

Thank you for your help!

I'm no expert. But if I look at my generated css, I see that they always appear together to define the same thing.

Here is it: http://foundation.zurb.com/docs/components/grid.html

"You can use column or columns - the only difference is grammar. "

Yes, I read that too and understand that there is no functional difference. My question is when, grammatically, to use the singular "column".

Yeah, it doesn't really matter other than grammer :)

I always use columns, even for 0ne column. One column is what it's for.

Thank you!

I was confused because on the foundation docs grid page they write:

" <div class="large-1 columns">1</div>"

In any case I'm glad to have an answer -- thanks!
