SASS/SCSS compiling slowly

Foundation for Apps is finally installed (OSX) and working correctly, after quite few issues getting npm to work correctly. The following post was what helped me finally solve the problem: https://gist.github.com/DanHerbert/9520689

The following terminal command now runs correctly:

foundation-apps watch

All is good; except, I notice that compiling the app.scss file is very SLOW.
It takes 4+ seconds to create app.css (198k)

In my Foundation for Sites projects, compiling the app.scss file (with Grunt)
would take only about 1 second to create app.css (198k)

Is this anything to do with using "foundation-apps watch" VS "grunt watch" ??

Any ideas/suggestions?

It's built on Gulp, but npm start, Gulp, and foundation-apps watch all do the same thing. There is a issue with Libsass and one it's resolved, hopefully very soon, we can move to Libsass which is 4+ times faster.
