SCSS - How to edit button background color?

I'm on Foundation 5.1.1. I'm really new to the whole SASS stuff so im not really sure where to start with styling. From things I have read I understood that the file I should edit is _settings.scss in the scss/ folder. However I can't seem to find an option to change the button background color.

Some help would be appreciated

There are built in button colors tied to classes in Foundation.
secondary, success, alert, default

You could use css

.button {
background-color: black;
}

or make custom buttons with mixins.
With mixins you can build custom buttons from _global.scss

So if I created a _custom.scss fle and imported it in the app.scss

Would a simple css rule override the background color?
