Tabs with unique colors

I'd like to set up 3 tabs that each uses a unique color. Looking at the .tab CSS, I know I can create a custom style for each, but the .tab CSS has many lines of code and parameters. Not sure how much would need to be changed to make 3 unique tabs that will work as expected in a responsive page. Has anyone faced this challenge and made it work? Thanks.

If you give each anchor tag it's own class within the HTML and call the class in the CSS with a style of background-color: #; it could change the color for that button. Test and see if that works out...

.tab-red { background-color: #ff0000; }
.tab-blue { background-color: #00ff00; }
.tab-green { background-color: #0000ff; }
